FRA Supports NASA's Successful Orion Launch and Recovery Mission

FRA's Lead Research Pilot, Mark Pestana supported NASA's Armstrong Flight Research Center last Friday by providing valuable insight to the local media about the Orion mission, as well as NASA's MQ-9 Ikhana Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS).  NASA's Ikhana was flown off of the coast of Baja to provide key imagery of the Orion capsule's reentry and splashdown.  This was a historically significant event for NASA and American space travel, but also for the use of the UAS for the advancement of science and technology.  It was a great example of an unmanned aircraft providing support to an unmanned spacecraft…!

FRA Debuts New FAST Aircraft At NASA Ames 75th Anniversary Open House

As NASA Ames Research Center celebrated its 75th Anniversary at Moffett Field hosting over 150,000 people from surrounding communities in Silicon Valley, Flight Research Associates proudly displayed the new FRA Airborne Systems Testbed, or FAST, on the Moffett flight line.  FRA's newest capability was a real hit with the visiting crowd, and generated many intriguing comments and questions.  The new FAST capability provides options for government and industry users of airborne sensor payloads to flight test the payload command & control and airborne functionality before committing the time and resources to flying that payload on unmanned aircraft.  For more information, contact Paul "Speedy" Fast at, or (702) 521-4494.
